Care
How is care defined?
Here is a child-friendly definition of the value, care which teachers can use:
Being caring means that you want to choose kind words and actions. You think about other people’s feelings and want them to be happy. You also try to help them when they need help.
Why is care important?
Being caring helps children to be aware of their feelings and the feelings of others. They learn to look out for others, understand their needs and show empathy.
How might children demonstrate care?
Here are some examples of how children might demonstrate care through their actions, speech and behaviour:
- Encouraging a friend who is having difficulty completing a task
- Asking a friend who is upset, “Are you ok?”
- Helping a friend who has difficulty moving around at the playground
