How is honesty defined?
Here is a child-friendly definition of the value, honesty which teachers can use:
Being honest means that you choose to tell the truth because it is the right thing to do.
Why is honesty important?
Being honest is one of the ways that will help children to develop a sense of integrity, knowing right from wrong.
How might children demonstrate honesty?
Here are some examples of how children might demonstrate honesty through their actions, speech and behaviour:
- Speaking the truth about what happened in a conflict
- Returning things to their rightful owners
- Admitting their own mistakes
